The ten-minute arrival plan
What to confirm before you set out for a new hotel — especially in unfamiliar historic centres.
Find the door, not just the pin
A map marker may sit on the wrong side of an old building or beside a pedestrian-only lane. Request the exact entrance, current directions and the nearest practical drop-off point. Save these details somewhere accessible offline.
Plan the final five hundred metres
Look at the route from your transport stop to the property. A short distance can include steps, hills, uneven pavement or an awkward crossing. For late arrivals or heavy luggage, confirm the easier alternative.
Check the check-in window
Some smaller properties do not have a staffed reception all night. Confirm whether late arrival needs advance notice, whether an access code is sent separately and how to reach a person if the instructions do not work.
Leave room for uncertainty
Transport delays happen. Know the cancellation terms, the property’s contact method and a realistic fallback route. Good preparation is not about planning every minute; it is about removing one avoidable problem.
Five minutes spent planning the final stretch can make an unfamiliar city feel much easier.
