Read the room, not only the rating
A simple framework for comparing two properties without getting distracted by the star count.
Start with the repeatable details
An impressive lobby photograph tells you very little about the things you will use twice a day. Write down the room area, bed configuration, air-conditioning or heating controls, lift access, sound insulation and bathroom arrangement. Mark any missing answer as a question rather than an assumption.
Read reviews for patterns
Instead of treating an overall score as a verdict, look for recurring themes. If several recent guests mention noise from the same street or difficulty with the same staircase, that is more useful than one emotional review. Also check whether management has described a specific change.
Compare the real total
Compare like with like: the same number of guests, the same dates, the same cancellation terms, and all compulsory local or property fees shown at checkout. A lower nightly rate is not necessarily cheaper when breakfast or transfers are needed.
Send one good message
Before booking, contact the property with the two or three questions that matter most to you. Clear, specific answers about arrival, quiet rooms or accessibility can tell you more than a hundred promotional adjectives.
A better hotel comparison starts with the details that will shape your morning and your sleep.
